Lake Ahquabi State Park In Indianola

Lake Ahquabi State Park is a state park of Iowa, US, featuring a 115-acre (47 ha) reservoir. Ahquabi means "resting place" in the Fox language. The park is 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Indianola and 22 miles (35 km) south of Des Moines.Three section of the park were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Lake Ahquabi offers a relaxing escape from the summer heat. Swimming, sunbathing, boating and fishing are all popular activities on the pristine man-made lake. With rental boats available, everyone can enjoy the water from a canoe, paddle boat or kayak. Wander along shady trails as you wind your way around the lake or explore the woods. Find your favorite spot in the park, and grill out with family and friends at one of the picnic areas.

With more than seven miles of multi-use trails at Lake Ahquabi, visitors can hike, bicycle, jog, cross-country ski, and even snowmobile throughout the area.

Indianola is home to the Indianola Balloon Classic, which is held at the end of July/August. Dozens of hot air balloons fly and compete for prizes during this week long event. Simpson College is located in Indianola. Banner Lakes at Summerset State Park is located just north of Indianola and features seasonal trout fishing, an adjoining shooting range and connection to the twelve mile Summerset Bike Trail, which runs from Indianola to Carlisle. Des Moines, Iowa's capital city, is just twenty-two miles north of Lake Ahquabi, and has all the offerings of a major metropolitan area.
