Beautiful Lake Santeetlah is one of most unspoiled lakes you'll find in the North Carolina mountains, and often called one of the most beautiful in the country.Lake Santeetlah is a town in Graham County, North Carolina, United States, 6 miles (10 km) northwest of Robbinsville on a peninsula surrounded by Lake Santeetlah—which in turn is largely surrounded by Nantahala National Forest. The town has more than two hundred residences, many of them second homes owned by permanent residents of Florida and Georgia.

To explore the lake, you can rent pontoon boats, ski boats or kayaks at Santeetlah Marina (1 Marina Drive, Robbinsville) in "town." The Town of Lake Santeetlah occupies a peninsula in the lake with about 200 homes but only 50 permanent residents.

Lake Santeetlah is surrounded by the Cheoah District of the Nantahala National Forest. While the lake surface and land below the high water level is owned and managed by Brookfield Smoky Mountain Hydropower LLC., almost 80 percent of the shoreline is public land managed by the Forest Service. Santeetlah Marina and the surrounding property have an interesting history dating back to the early 1960’s with the development of Thunderbird Mountain.

Lake Santeetlah has a wide variety of fish. The most popular being smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and walleye. Until recently Lake Santeetlah was home to the state record largemouth and walleye. Lake Santeetlah also has a good population of crappie, bream and lake trout. Fishing licenses are required and can be purchased at the marina or On-Line.

West of Lake Santeetlah is Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest with great hiking through a virgin forest, just off the super scenic Cherohala Skyway. About 20 miles away is the much bigger Fontana Lake.
