Suzdal is a town and the administrative center of Suzdalsky District in Vladimir Oblast, Russia, located on the Kamenka River, 26 kilometers (16 mi) north of the city of Vladimir, the administrative center of the oblast. Suzdal is one of the oldest Russian towns. In the 12th century it became the capital of the principality, with Moscow being merely one of its subordinate settlements. Nowadays Suzdal is the smallest of the Russian Golden Ring towns with population of just 9978 (2015),but a major tourist attraction.
Suzdal retains a rustic old Russian, Soviet-era atmosphere. You will not find any McDonalds restaurants or any trace of Western chain shops or hotels here, but locals feel that certain aspects of the town are on the cusp of being "Disney-fied". Livestock wandering the streets and elderly women washing clothes in the river (and tourists wielding digital cameras) are regular sights in Suzdal.Suzdal is, perhaps, one of the most interesting and rewarding stop along the Golden Ring, as it'll give you the feeling of the countryside (especially, after the busy Moscow), there you can enjoy the ancient Russian architecture, and marvelous views.
Souvenirs
Suzdal is famous for its medovukha (mead) which is an alcoholic drink made out of honey. It can be drunk either hot or cold, meaning it perfect in both summer and winter, and you will find it on practically every menu in the city. There are various flavours of the drink available and even a non-alcoholic version. In addition to medovukha, you can find all traditional Russian souvenirs in the city and there is a big souvenir market on Torgovaya Ploschad.
Location
